A third experience from Barbara Crotts (Clan B): Another time I was visiting my friend, Sue, who was married to an East Indian. At that time, there were several Indian woman visiting also. At one point Sue went out of the room and a couple of the women were commenting on how fat Sue was which disturbed me greatly; to her face they behaved quite differently. I wished I had a comment, but did not. Later, Sue's husband returned. We all had a drink and I felt very relaxed. Then we went out for a drive -- the women, Sue and her husband and I. The women were talking. Then again, like above, I became overcome with a strange "fatigue", I thought I must be social and enter in the conversation, although I was feeling it a stretch to understand them. So I said. "when my friends were in Florida they also didn't like the bugs and the heat." There was a long pause and then they turned and said that they were talking in the Marathi language. I felt somehow this made up for my previous silence. [2775A]
